This glass is made from what is known as forest glass, or glass that was blown in the medieval times form 1000-1200A.D.; the lines on the cup represent how much you were supposed to consume in one drink!

A set of goblets made of forest glass from the 1490-1530, sometimes called krautsrkunk, are on loan to the museum from a glass collector; these types of glass are considered fairly rare in the glass world.

A pair of goblets that were etched with acid to have the color adhere to the glass; the glass museum has pieces that range from modern to over 2000 years old and there is also a shop that sells the goods made on site and other from the area.

A glass paperweight on loan to the glass blowing factory/museum that is thought to have been made in Wolterdingen sometime in the 19th century and features colored flecks that were blown into the glass.

A small sampling of the goods made at the mill in Villigen that has been around for over 500 years; the mill uses the flour it produces to make the goods they sell in their shops around town and in the surrounding area including rye, sourdough, and spelt bread.

Rosenmehl mill located in Bavaria is a German business dedicated to making good quality flour, they collect the grain from farmers and bring it here to be processed then deliver the products to the stores to cut down on middle men and possible contamination.

For a small fee of a Euro you can see another cuckoo clock in action on the side building of the world's largest cuckoo clock; a song plays and people come out and dance after the fee is paid, this is a common type of cuckoo seen in Germany.

One of cities cathedrals that is located inside the historical city walls; the walls protected the city from foreign invaders who attempted to flood the city by diverting a river towards town and waiting for the water level to rise above the wall!

A mill that has been in Villigen for over five hundred years and owned by only three families; the original family gave it over their church and then it was bought by another church member who's family has owned and operated it the mill ever since the buyout in the 1800s.

A look at the suburbs of Villigen from the top of the oldest mill in town which has been in the same place for over 500 years though it has been renovated since then; however, there are still many pieces of milling equipment that are all wooden from the early 1900s in use in the building.

A full view of the Rhine falls in Switzerland which you can see closer up by taking a boat ride and hiking up the land in the middle of the falls; the falls are the largerst plain waterfall in Europe and are 450feet wide and around 75feet tall.

A small farm building lies at the base of Säntis; while not much other than grass and a few trees seemed to grow here, there were quite a few cattle in the area including some at the base of Säntis, and there is even a cheese store you can visit at the base of the mountain.

Purple weedy flowers are about the only plant life that's visible at this altitude (8,209ft) but they brighten up the rocky sides of the mountain that can be seen from the platform.

A view from the top of Säntis, after climbing the stairs inside the building and then more flights outside you make it to the top of the mountain and are level with the clouds; weather turns fast here and getting clear shots of the surrounding area can be difficult if it's a stormy day so be prepared!

Memorial to the fallen

On the very top of this peak there is a stone monument that stands as a memorial for those whom have died while hiking the mountain. if you look closely you can even make out a few of the trails that lead to the top for hikers to pay their respects to the fallen.

Hiking to the top of Säntis is no small feat, depending on your starting point you could spend a couple of hours to over 7 to get to the summit; people are constantly hiking even in the winter though there is snow most of the year!

A Brown Swiss dairy cow that was housed in town near our youth hostel; almost all the dairy cows in Switzerland wear the custom bell around their neck which you can buy in almost any shop in town!

This impressive lion statue doubles as a fountain in the back garden of the Hohenschwangau Castle and features four male lions; it stands several feet tall and is a main attraction of visitors.

Another small fountain in the summer garden again featuring swans that has become a wishing well for visitors to toss in their change in hopes their wish will be fulfilled.

The summer garden featured this swan fountain complete with the alps for a backdrop; the swan was the symbol of the Ludwig family and is featured prominently in every part of the castles.

A handed painted wishing well was situated right outside the doorway to the castle and featured a had chiseled lion head spout; to either side of the well you could see for miles to the town in the distance.

King Ludwig's parents built this castle and had a separate building from which they raised there children, the King spent more time here than in his own castle before being declared insane and dethroned.

The new swan castle, built by King Ludwig, is only 1/3 of the way complete on the inside and it undergoing extensive exterior renovations which is the reason for the scaffolding around the towers.

This was the 'original', smaller crematorium that was put in place back when Dachau was a political and war prison.

The gate that lead to the SS barracks that were housed in a different part of the camp that was not able to be seen from the main area; visitors are unable to go to this part of the camp though you can look at a map and other items for an idea about how the soldiers lived while here.

This is a picture of most of the room that was the last many saw in the camp, offered a shower before being allowed into the camp, prisoners were lead into the rooms and then never came out; while going through this part of the memorial was the hardest not going through all of it seemed like it would be a something you would regret for not trying.

A frontal view of the infamous Dachau crematorium, which was built to replace the original after the prison came to hold more than the original political prisoners and war captives.

A stature built to honor and remember those prisoners who died here nameless to those around them, the piece was set so that it faced the road leading back towards the camp almost as if the man was walking away from the past.

As you walk down the road you first glimpse what looks like any other building but once you get closer you see the stacks on the roof more clearly and start to grasp what those walking this way must have felt when they saw this view.
